How I work
The approach I use is person-centred. This means that I will safely hold the space for you to talk about your struggles and fears, in whatever form they come and show.
Person-centre also means that I will follow your lead when you show me what aches and I will try to understand you and your experiences from your point of view, by listening empathically and without judgment. This can support you to access your internal resources to better cope with life events.
I am interested in what you as an individual brings to therapy, whilst being aware of the impact your environment, power and inequalities might have on your distress. This means that my approach is culturally aware and sensitive to intersectional forms of oppressions. I also work non-diagnostically: whilst you may have a medical diagnosis of mental illness, I will listen to your individual story of how the diagnosis and issues with your health are affecting you.
I offer counselling in English and Italian, and I welcome other languages too. Spanish speakers can enquire regarding possibilities for working with both English and their native language.
I work with a variety of therapy issues, including (but not limited to) those in the following list:
change and loss / relationship issues / anxiety / depression / shame and guilt / relationship with food / body image / self-esteem / isolation / cultural issues and identity / overwhelm by own thoughts and feelings / trauma / addiction
Following from my counselling experiences, I also work with people who have auditory, visual and tactile hallucinations, paranoia, people who are involved in the criminal justice system and those who have substances and alcohol use problem.
In order to offer you the best of me in our collaborative relationship, I consistently undertake trainings and attend supervision on a regular basis, whilst abiding to the code of ethics of my regulating body, the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
During and after my training, I have counselled clients from the Research Clinic at Strathclyde University. At present, I am volunteering at Time and Space (Glasgow) and Simpson House (Edinburgh), and I am seeing clients privately.
